Tulsa 65, Abilene Christian 39: D’Andre Wright scored 16 points and James Woodard added 13 as the Golden Hurricane dominated the visiting Wildcats.

Wright hit all five of his field-goal attempts, was 5-for-5 at the free-throw line and a pulled down a game-high seven rebounds for Tulsa (2-1), which has notched back-to-back home wins after a season-opening loss at Oral Roberts. Thanks to 22 Abilene Christian fouls, the Golden Hurricane had a 25-7 advantage in free-throw attempts but only made 14 of them.

Austin Cooke had 12 points but was the only player to reach double-digits for the Wildcats (1-1), a Southland Conference program in its second season transitioning up from Division II. Abilene Christian also received six points and a team-high six rebounds from Duran Porter, but shot only 27.3 percent from the field, including 5-of-22 from 3-point range.

Tulsa led 33-19 at halftime and scored seven of first 10 points of the second half to expand its advantage to 40-22. The Wildcats would only get as close as 16 points the rest of the way.

Abilene Christian led 5-2 through the game’s opening 4:30, but the Golden Hurricane scored seven straight points as part of an 18-5 spree and never trailed again. Tulsa closed out the half with a 13-4 run, with Woodard's 3-pointer igniting the spurt.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Tulsa enjoyed a 43-30 rebound advantage and has outrebounded its three foes by a combined 124-97. … It was a big step up for Abilene Christian which beat lower-division Hillsdale Baptist of the National Christian College Athletic Association 101-61 in its season opener. … Wednesday’s game was the first meeting between the schools located less than 400 miles apart.
