Oklahoma State 72, No. 6 Kansas 65: Marcus Smart scored 20 of his 21 points in the second half as the Cowboys downed the visiting Jayhawks in Big 12 play.

Smart overcame a poor shooting night by making 9-of-14 free throws and also had six rebounds, five assists and four steals for Oklahoma State (19-10, 7-9). Markel Brown also put up 21 points, including 10-of-10 from the line, and Le'Bryan Nash registered 16 points as the Cowboys won despite being dominated on the boards 42-24, including 15-3 on the offensive end.

Andrew Wiggins had 15 points and seven rebounds and Joel Embiid notched 13 points, 13 rebounds and three steals for Big 12 champions Kansas (22-7, 13-3). Wayne Selden, Jr. added 13 points and Perry Ellis chipped in with 11 points.

Naadir Tharpe and Selden hit back-to-back 3-pointers to kick start a 12-4 run as Kansas took a 10-point lead near the midway point of the half, but the home crowd got involved in earnest as Brown and Nash each made a dunk and later when Smart nailed a 3-pointer to put the Cowboys up 63-61 in the final four minutes. After a three-point play by Wiggins tied it at 64, Kamari Murphy made a layup and Smart made two to seal the win, which was the 81st at home under head coach Travis Ford.

After scoring the game's first two baskets, the Jayhawks made just one of their next eight shots and turned the ball over six times while Nash scored nine of the first 14 points for the Cowboys, who led 14-7 with 11 minutes left in the first half. The tide soon turned in favor of Kansas, which rattled off 12 straight points for a 19-14 advantage before the Cowboys closed to within 26-25 at halftime.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Smart was 0-of-7 from the field and scored his only point on a free throw in the first half for Oklahoma State, which shot 6-of-25 as a team from the field in the opening stanza. ... Both teams shot 1-of-8 from beyond the arc in the first half, but the Cowboys had an advantage from the foul line by making 12-of-14. ... The Jayhawks committed 22 turnovers and were whistled for 23 fouls, which resulted in the Cowboys making 27-of-33 from the line.
