Kawhi Leonard and Malcolm Thomas scored 22 points apiece and No. 6 San Diego State extended its home winning streak to 18 with a 68-62 victory over New Mexico on Wednesday.

D.J. Gay added 11 points for San Diego State (26-1, 11-1 Mountain West), which tied the school record for most wins. Leonard and Thomas combined to shoot 18 of 22 from the free throw line and grab 15 rebounds.

Dairese Gary had 18 points and seven rebounds for New Mexico (17-9, 5-6), which lost its second straight. Tony Snell scored 14 points, and Drew Gordon added 13.

The Aztecs led by 14 midway through the second half before they made only one field goal in the final 10:34. New Mexico came within four on Gary’s jump shot with 48 seconds left, but the Aztecs finished with six straight free throws to secure the win.

The Aztecs, who share the Mountain West lead with No. 8 BYU, host the Cougars on Feb. 26. San Diego State has won six straight heading into Saturday’s game at Air Force.
