Jessie Govan scored 12 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season, and Georgetown defeated North Texas 75-63 on Wednesday at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

The Hoyas (9-1) were coming off an emotional overtime loss to Syracuse and were flat for nearly 30 minutes before asserting their superior size and strength. In the end, the Mean Green, who were coming off an overtime win against San Diego, just couldn't keep up with the Hoyas.

After 12 lead changes and four ties, Marcus Derrickson connected on a 3-point jumper at the 15:02 mark to give the Hoyas the lead for good at 44-42.

Derrickson followed with a layup. After a pair of free throws by North Texas, layups by Jagan Mosley and Jonathan Mulmore pushed Georgetown's lead to 50-44. Another Mulmore layup at the 10:34 mark gave Georgetown a 55-47 lead.

North Texas (7-6) cut the deficit to 59-54 on a 3-pointer by Shane Temara, but the Mean Green would not score for more than two minutes, giving the Hoyas an opportunity to open up a double-digit lead on a three-point play by Mosley.

Derrickson led the Hoyas with 17 points, and Mulmore had 12 points.

Ryan Woolridge paced the Mean Green with 20 points and nine assists while Temara added 14 points and 12 rebounds.

North Texas sophomore Roosevelt Smart entered play averaging 18.5 points and making 43.6 percent of his shots from beyond the 3-point arc. He struggled and finished with seven points on 3-of-18 from the field and 1-of-13 from 3-point range.

In the first half, there were nine lead changes and the game was tied four times.

The Mean Green didn't back down against the taller Hoyas, which should not have surprised anyone on the Georgetown bench. North Texas is coached by Grant McCasland, who last year guided Arkansas State to an upset road win over the Hoyas.

North Texas took a 12-10 lead on A.J. Lawson's layup and slowly pushed the lead to seven on a jumper by Lawson.

Mulmore's layup put the Hoyas back out in front with 3:30 left in the half, and Georgetown took a 34-33 lead into intermission.
