Freshman point guard Matt Coleman snuck through the defense and hit up a game-winning floater with nine seconds to play, lifting Texas past upset-minded Tennessee State 47-46 on Monday at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.

Tennessee State's Delano Spencer made back-to-back 3-pointers to propel the Tigers to a 46-45 lead with 1:26 to play. Texas' Mohamed Bamba blocked a jumper by Christian Mekowulu with 28 seconds remaining, and the Longhorns called a timeout to run a play for Coleman, who scored just four points.

Tennessee State led 38-36 after a 3-pointer by Spencer with 9:04 to play but didn't score again until a dunk by Mekowulu almost six minutes later. Meanwhile, Texas ran off to a 45-38 lead that disappeared in the final minutes.

Dylan Osetkowski led Texas (8-3) with 16 points while Kerwin Roach II added 12 for the Longhorns.

Mekowulu paced the Tigers (5-5) with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Spencer hit for 11 points.

Texas staggered out of the gate against the Tigers, going scoreless over a 5 1/2-minute span in the middle of the first half while missing 16 of its first 19 shots and falling behind 17-7. The Longhorns roared back with a 10-2 run over the final 2:23 to assume a 25-21 lead at halftime.
