Ole Miss broke open a close game with a 12-0 second-half burst to take a 70-57 advantage shortly before the midway point. Davis scored the first five points and junior forward Bruce Stevens capped it with a layup.

Louisiana fought back, with Russell draining back-to-back 3-pointers to move within 72-66 with 7:44 left. But Shuler's 3-pointer with 4:15 to play gave the Rebels a 12-point lead and Ole Miss later finished the contest with nine unanswered points.

Louisiana led 35-25 with 5:19 left in the first half after a basket by senior forward Bryce Washington. The Rebels responded with a 10-1 run to creep within a point on Davis' 3-pointer with 2:12 to go.

Russell's 3-pointer gave the Ragin' Cajuns a six-point edge with 1:05 remaining, but Burnett's basket with seven seconds left pulled Ole Miss within 42-40 at the break.
