Texas Tech guard Keenan Evans scored a game-high 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field to lead the host Red Raiders to an 89-46 victory over Nicholls on Wednesday night.

Evans also went 5 of 7 from 3-point range in the game for Texas Tech, which improved to 9-1 overall with its sixth consecutive win and 27th straight victory over a non-conference opponent at home.

Nicholls (5-6) was led by guard Jahvaughn Powell's 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field, including 4-of-10 from beyond the arc. He was the only Colonels player to score in double figures as he nearly made more field goals than his teammates combined. They made 10 of 35 (28.6 percent) from the field.

In addition to Evans' hot shooting, Texas Tech, which shot 55.4 percent from the field, was led by guard Justin Gray making 7 of 9 shots with 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, guard Niem Stevenson downing 5 of 10 shots for 10 points and forward Zach Smith hitting 4 of 7 shots with 13 points.

The Red Raiders won the rebounding battle 43-18 and outscored Nicholls 18-0 in second-chance points. The Colonels also committed 19 turnovers and were outscored at the free-throw line 19-3 because they were whistled for 19 fouls compared to only six by Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders led for all but the first 1:39 of the game. They outscored the Colonels 27-13 after their lead was cut to 18-10 with 12:35 left in the first half.

Evans fueled the game-turning rally late in the first half as he scored 15 of his points on 5-of-7 shooting with four assists before intermission. Gray also had 11 points in the first half on 5-of-7 shooting from the field.
