Keenan Evans scored a career-high 28 points to lead Texas Tech to a 93-67 victory over visiting Houston Baptist in its season opener Friday night at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas.

Anthony Livingston had 16 points and five rebounds for the Red Raiders. Aaron Ross and Shadell Millinghaus had 11 points apiece. Niem Stevenson came off the bench to score 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

Atif Russell scored 16 points for Houston Baptist. Josh Ibarra had nine points and five rebounds.

Houston Baptist led 6-5 four minutes into the game, but Texas Tech staged a 10-2 run to take control. The Red Raiders went up 15-8 on a 3-pointer by Evans. The Huskies battled back to cut the deficit to one, but the Red Raiders carried a 45-36 lead into the locker room at the break.

Texas Tech started the second period with an 8-2 run to take a 53-38 lead. The Red Raiders went up by 19 on a layup by Devon Thomas, took a 20-point lead on a layup by Millinghaus and led by as many as 30 later in the second half.

Texas Tech shot 61.1 percent from the field, made 10 of 17 from 3-point range and amassed a 36-27 rebounding advantage. Houston Baptist shot 37.9 percent and made 7 of 23 from beyond the arc.

Evans made 9 of 12 field-goal attempts and did not miss on five attempts from 3-point range. He surpassed his previous career high of 21 points in a victory over Baylor last season.

Texas Tech and Oklahoma State tied for seventh in the Big 12 Conference preseason coaches' poll. The Red Raiders finished behind Kansas, West Virginia, Texas, Iowa State, Baylor and Oklahoma.
