Before the season, Patrick Chambers envisioned what his Penn State team would play like once the Big Ten schedule began.

The Nittany Lions coach wanted an attacking bunch looking to shut teams down defensively. Penn State didn't dissappoint in its final nonconference tuneup, pulling away from Morgan State 96-55 on Wednesday in State College, Pa.

Five Nittany Lions scored in double figures, led by Lamar Stevens with 20 points.

Tony Carr and Payton Banks scored 11 points each and Mike Watkins, Shep Garner and Julian Moore added 10 apiece for the Nittany Lions (8-5), who won their second straight.

Penn State led the entire way and never by less than 18 points in the second half.

Hot shooting in the opening few minutes helped the Nittany Lions pull out to a 17-7 advantage midway through the half and they stretched that to 49-29 by halftime.

Stevens, one of three freshmen starters for Penn State, was red-hot to start the second half. He scored six of the Nittany Lions' first 10 points of the half and did so in varied fashion.

Stevens dunked before scoring on a layup on Penn State's next possession. He cleaned up a second-chance opportunity with a tip-in moments later to put the Nittany Lions up 59-37 with just over 15 minutes to play.

The Bears played their second straight game without leading scorer Tiwian Kendley. The junior guard transferred from Lamar Community College and has led the team in scoring in five of nine games played. He scored 40 in his last outing against Manhattan but hasn't played since.

Phillip Carr led Morgan State (3-8) with 19 points and Kyle Thomas added 14.

The Bears lost for the sixth time in seven games.

Penn State dominated in the paint with 52 points to Morgan State's 12 and outrebounded the Bears 49-32.
