The Ohio State Buckeyes raced to a big early lead and cruised to a 77-40 win over Youngstown State Tuesday night in Columbus, Ohio.

Ohio State shot 50 percent from the floor while holding their intra-state rival to just 21 percent. The Buckeyes were 5-for-15 from 3-point range, an improvement from the past three games in which they made just 11 of 62.

Jae'Sean Tate, Kam Williams and Keita Bates-Diop each scored 15 points to lead Ohio State. Trevor Thompson had 11 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks for the Buckeyes, who had nine different players score. Ohio State held a 54-35 rebound advantage.

Matt Donlan led Youngstown State with 10 points and six rebounds. The Penguins were just 2-for-21 from 3-point range.

After a Youngstown State bucket to start the second half, the Buckeyes scored a dozen straight to go up 52-16.

Youngstown State answered with an 11-1 run, but the Buckeyes quickly took over again, pushing their lead to as much as 40.

Ohio State dominated from start to finish.

The Buckeyes held the Penguins without a field goal for the first 4:54, jumping out to a 12-1 lead. The Buckeyes, who came in ranked 255th in the nation in shooting from beyond the arc, hit three 3-pointers during the run.

After a couple Youngstown State buckets, the Buckeyes scored 13 straight points while holding the Penguins scoreless for almost five minutes to go up 27-5.

Ohio State closed the first half on a 13-2 run and led 42-14 at the break. The Penguins made just four of their 27 shots.

The Penguins' 14 points were the fewest allowed by an Ohio State team in 16 years.

Bates-Diop, in his fourth game since returning from an injury, led Ohio State with eight points, and the Buckeyes held a 30-14 rebounding edge at halftime. Thompson had 12 first-half rebounds.
