Nick Rutherford banked in a shot from the key with one second left in overtime, and Florida Atlantic shocked Ohio State 79-77 on Tuesday night in Columbus, Ohio.

Rutherford had 11 points and nine rebounds, and Adonis Filer scored 23 to lead the Owls (3-5). Trevor Thompson led Ohio State (7-2) with 16 points.

Ohio State entered the game with a 118-4 record at home versus non-conference opponents under head coach Thad Matta.

The game featured 21 lead changes.

Ohio State had a chance to win it in regulation. Thompson made two free throws to tie the game at 71 with 14 seconds left. The Owls' Jailyn Ingram then lost the ball out of bounds, but the Buckeyes could not get a shot off in the final six seconds.

Ohio State opened an 11-point lead early in the second half and looked ready to pull away, but Florida Atlantic came back with 10 straight points, part of a 19-4 run that gave the Owls a 66-62 lead with 4:04 remaining.

The Buckeyes couldn't find their shooting touch early on. They missed 10 of their first 11 shots, as Florida Atlantic built a 13-5 lead in the game's first four minutes.

It was the second straight game in which Ohio State struggled against a smaller-conference opponent. Runs of 10-0 and 8-0 helped the Buckeyes to a seven-point lead with six minutes remaining in the half. But the Owls responded, cutting the Ohio State lead to 32-31 at halftime.

The Buckeyes made just four of their 20 3-point attempts.

Ohio State's Keita Bates-Diop scored 10 points in his return after missing five straight games with an ankle injury.

The competition goes up a few notches for the Buckeyes, as they face Connecticut and No. 2 UCLA the next two Saturdays.

Florida Atlantic is off for 10 days before their next game, at Miami on Dec. 16.
