Senior swingman Malcolm Hill seized control down the stretch to lift Illinois to an 85-77 non-conference victory over IUPUI on Tuesday night at State Farm Center in Champaign, Ill.

Hill scored 11 of his game-high 32 points in the final 4 minutes, 49 seconds as the Illini (7-3) outlasted the Jaguars (3-6) in a battle that featured 10 lead changes and seven ties.

Sophomore forward Leron Black added 16 points and nine rebounds for Illinois.

Senior forward Matt O'Leary paced IUPUI with a career-high 25 points. He eclipsed his previous career best of 22 with a 3-pointer at the 10:51 mark of the second half, but managed just two points the rest of the way. Senior guard Darell Combs posted 18 points and 4 assists.

Illinois opened with a 10-0 run, but IUPUI recovered quickly and took its first lead at the 12:04 mark of the first half. Sophomore guard D.J. McCall's layup gave the Jaguars a 16-15 edge.

The lead see-sawed the rest of the half with IUPUI holding a 42-41 margin at the break. O'Leary led all players in the first half with 15 points.

O'Leary canned a pair of long 3-pointers midway through the second half. His jumper with 7:24 left gave the Jaguars a 68-65 lead, but that's when the game changed direction dramatically.

IUPUI had a chance to build its lead to five as junior guard Ron Patterson swiped the ball, but he couldn't convert his fast-break layup. Illinois grabbed the rebound, rushed the other way and Hill swished a 3-pointer while getting fouled to make it 68-68 with 6:46 to play.

Illinois transformed Hill's 3-pointer into an 8-0 run as senior center Mike Thorne Jr.'s put-back became a three-point play and senior point guard Tracy Abrams fed Hill for a fast-break layup for a 73-68 lead with 4:49 to go. IUPUI never caught up again.
