Georgetown started the second half by hitting its first six shots and held off a late charge from Elon to earn a 77-74 victory at the BB&T Classic in Washington on Sunday.

The Hoyas (5-4) used the strong run after intermission to jump out to a 52-41 lead after being tied at 36 at halftime. Elon (6-2) roared back to cut the margin back to one, before Georgetown stemmed the tide.

Georgetown led 76-72 with 23.7 seconds left when guard L.J. Peak went to the free throw line. He made the first but missed the second. Guard Luke Eddy made a layup to cut the margin to three. Peak then missed the front end of a one-and-one with 7.4 seconds left, but the Phoenix couldn't get off a shot before time expired.

Guard Rodney Pryor led the Hoyas with 23 points. Peak added 20 points and seven rebounds. Guard Jessie Govan made six of his seven shots to finish with 13 points off the bench. Georgetown made 17 of its 24 free throw attempts, but went 13 for 15 in the first half when it couldn't get anything else to fall.

Elon had a much tougher time getting to the line. It didn't attempt its first free throw until midway through the second half and had just seven attempts all game. But it knocked down 11 three-pointers to stay in it.

Forward Brian Dawkins led the Phoenix with 17 points. Eddy had 12 points, and guard Danian Swoope contributed 11 points off the bench.
