Chimezie Metu posted his second double-double of the season to lead visiting USC to a 76-55 victory over host San Diego on Wednesday night.

Metu had 19 points and 13 rebounds for USC (7-0), which is off to its best start since 2000-01 when the Trojans won their first eight games en route to an NCAA Elite Eight appearance.

Elijah Stewart scored 15 points for the Trojans. De'Anthony Melton came off the bench to post 14 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Olin Carter III had a game-high 21 points and seven rebounds for San Diego (2-5). Brett Bailey had 17 points and seven rebounds. Tyler Williams added 10 points.

USC jumped out to an 8-2 lead over the first four minutes and went up 21-12 on Melton's dunk. San Diego got within six on a 3-pointer by Carter, but baskets by Metu put the Trojans up 35-25 with just over four minutes remaining.

The Trojans extended the lead to 15 on a layup by Shaqquan Aaron. They led 43-31 at the break.

USC maintained a comfortable lead throughout the second half. The Trojans went up by 15 on Stewart's three-point play and later took a 55-38 lead on Melton's layup. They led by as many as 18 following a 3-pointer by Jordan McLaughlin with just over six minutes remaining.

The Toreros got within 12 on a layup by Bailey with four minutes to play, but the Trojans ended the game with a 9-0 run.

USC shot 50.8 percent from the field despite going 3 of 18 from 3-point range. The Trojans amassed a 44-28 rebounding advantage against the Toreros, who shot 31.6 percent and made 8 of 34 from beyond the arc.
