Bonzie Colson collected a game-high 24 points and 17 rebounds as Notre Dame broke open a tight contest in the second half for a 92-78 victory over Iowa in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge on Tuesday at Purcell Pavilion in South Bend, Ind.

The unranked Irish (7-0) won their fifth of the season at home as Steve Vasturia scored 22 points while V.J. Beachem and Matt Farrell each added 16.

Iowa (3-4) dropped its third straight. Jordan Bohannon scored 23 points for the Hawkeyes, Cordell Pemsl had 18, and Peter Jok added 15. Nicholas Baer pulled down 12 rebounds.

In the first half, the Iowa defense forced seven turnovers, but Notre Dame still opened a 27-19 lead behind eight early points from Vasturia. The Irish went on to a 41-26 advantage thanks to a Beachem 3-pointer.

The Hawkeyes closed the half with 13 unanswered points -- including seven from Jok -- to cut the gap to 41-39 at intermission.

Notre Dame fell behind early in the second half but reclaimed the edge with a 10-0 run for a 60-52 lead after a Vasturia layup with 12:55 left in regulation.

Beachem's layup with 8:02 to play gave the Irish a double-digit advantage at 70-60. and the hosts built on it from there to lead by as many as 17 with 2:19 showing.

The Irish were 26 of 55 (47.3 percent) from the field and hit 10 of 23 from beyond the 3-point arc. Iowa managed just 27-of-71 shooting (38 percent) from the field and had 12 3-pointers on 35 attempts. The Irish posted a 45-32 rebounding edge.

Notre Dame is now 3-1 in all-time Big Ten-ACC Challenge play with the only loss to Iowa in 2013. The Hawkeyes fell to 5-11 in all-time Challenge meetings.

Iowa hosts Omaha on Saturday. Notre Dame is idle until Sunday when it entertains North Carolina A&T.
