Lamar Stevens scored 19 points and Penn State went on a late second-half run to beat an experienced Grand Canyon squad 85-76 on Tuesday night at the Bryce Jordan Center at University Park, Pa.

Stevens went 7-for-16 from the field and was perfect from the free-throw line (5-for-5) to lead the Nittany Lions (2-1). But he got plenty of help from Payton Banks, who added 15 points on 5 of 7 from the field, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range.

Shep Garner struggled from the field (5 of 13), but scored 14 points, had five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

The Antelopes (0-2) were led by Joshua Braun, who scored 25 points on 6 of 15 from the field, including 5-for-10 from 3-point range. Oscar Frayer chipped in with 13 points, but missed all six of his attempts from 3-point range.

Darion Clark added 12 points and 14 rebounds for Grand Canyon, which returned three starters from last year's squad that went 27-7.

With the Nittany Lions leading 65-57 with nine minutes to play, Braun sank a 3-pointer to pull the Antelopes within five at 65-60. Penn State proceeded to go on a 10-3 run to open up a 75-63 lead.

The Antelopes cut the lead to six at 79-73 with 1:41 to go, but the Nittany Lions answered with a Garner layup and free throws from Tony Carr and Banks pushed the lead back to eight with time winding down.

The Antelopes got off to a horrid start, not scoring for almost the first two minutes and falling behind 6-0. But the Nittany Lions couldn't get their offense in gear and Braun hit a 3 to put the Antelopes up 12-11.

The game would be tied eight times in the first half until Banks and Garner connected on a pair of 3's to help give Penn State a 48-41 lead at halftime.
