USC trailed much of the night but staged a late run to beat visiting Omaha 82-72 on Sunday at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

Shaqquan Aaron scored 16 points for USC (2-0). Chimezi Metu had 15 points and 11 rebounds, De'Anthony Melton had 13 points and nine rebounds and Jordan McLaughlin scored 12 points.

Marcus Tyus scored a career-high 33 points for Omaha (1-1). Tre'Shawn Thurman had 20 points and 14 rebounds.

The Mavericks held a 37-34 lead at the break and went up by six on a 3-pointer by Thurman early in the second half. The Trojans gradually battled back, getting within two on a dunk by Aaron and tying the game on a dunk by Metu.

USC took a 54-53 lead on a free throw by Nick Rakocevic and went up by three on a layup by McLaughlin. The Mavericks got within one on a basket by Daniel Meyer with 5:41 remaining, but the Trojans responded with a 9-0 run to take a 69-59 lead on a layup by Melton.

The teams traded leads in the opening minutes before Tyus converted a three-point play and sank a 3-pointer to fuel an 8-0 run that put Omaha up 16-7. The Mavericks took a 19-11 lead on a 3-pointer by J.T. Gibson and led 21-14 following a jumper by Daniel Nori, but USC responded with a 7-0 run to tie the game on a 3-pointer by Melton midway through the first half.

Omaha quickly reclaimed the lead and maintained a slight advantage over the final 9:30. The Mavericks went up 29-23 on a layup by Zach Jackson and stretched their lead to eight on a layup by Tyus.

USC mounted a 7-0 run to cut Omaha's lead to 34-33. A basket by Thurman gave the Mavericks the three-point lead at the break.
