Vanderbilt's outside game outlasted Texas A&M's inside game, as the Commodores scored a 72-67 victory over the Aggies on Thursday night at Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tenn.

The Aggies' trio of center Tyler Davis (25 points) and forwards Robert Williams (13) and Tonny Trocha-Morelos (10) were a headache to contain, but the Commodores, led by 14 from guard Matthew Fisher-Davis, were 10 of 26 (38.5 percent) on 3-pointers.

Forward Joe Toye chipped in 13, and center Luke Kornet and guard Riley LaChance both added 12 for Vanderbilt (13-13, 6-7 Southeastern Conference).

Vanderbilt, which trailed for most of the first half, grabbed a five-point lead when Kornet scored his first points of the game with 16:08 left. However, the Aggies kept pounding inside, with Williams, his head near rim level both times, swooping in for a pair of fastbreak dunks, the last capping a 6-0 run to answer Kornet's score.

But with 8:42 left, Kornet grabbed an offensive board, made a layup and hit a free throw after Davis picked up his fourth foul. After that, Vandy never trailed.

Toye later added a huge three-point play on what looked like an ill-advised one-on-three break. He hit the basket and drew a fourth foul on Aggies guard Chris Collins, putting Vanderbilt up 65-61 with 5:18 remaining.

The Aggies (13-12, 5-8) ran off to a fast start, leading 21-10 after Trocha-Morelos hit a layup during a spell in which Texas A&M took it to the rack with constant success.

But the Commodores took a one-point lead, 31-30, when Toye popped a 3-pointer from straight away. It came during a stretch where all seven Vanderbilt field goals were from 3-point range, with three coming from Fisher-Davis.

At the break, Vanderbilt led 35-34 despite a 24-14 rebounding deficit. Texas A&M finished with a 41-36 edge on the glass.

The Aggies also got 14 points from Admon Gilder.
