Freshman forward Grant Williams scored 30 points and Tennessee caught fire in the second half of a 92-77 victory over Lipscomb on Thursday at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Volunteers scored the first nine points of the second half to erase a 58-49 halftime deficit. Their surge continued and after Lew Evans hit a 3-pointer off an assist from Robert Hubbs III, Tennessee was up 81-73 with eight minutes to play. The Vols ran off 17 straight points during one stretch in the second half and cruised to their second straight victory.

Hubbs finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Volunteers (6-4), who host No. 8 Gonzaga on Sunday. It will be Tennessee's fourth game against a ranked opponent in non-conference play.

Williams hit 10 of 12 shots and made 10 of 13 free throws for his 30 points. He connected on a free throw three minutes into the second half that gave Tennessee its first lead.

Sophomore guard Garrison Mathews scored 28 points, including five 3-pointers to lead Lipscomb (4-9). Senior guard Josh Williams added 16 points for the Bisons.

The Bisons entered the game averaging more than 80 points and were coming off a 98-point outburst against Morehead State. They came out hot against Tennessee, connecting on 9 of their first 14 3-pointers in the first half and led 41-30 with 7:16 left before intermission.

Lipscomb led by as many as 15 in the first half. Matthews had 17 points in the first half for the Bisons. Grant Williams had 16 points to lead the Vols in the first half.

Tennessee opens SEC play at Texas A&M on Dec. 29.
