Senior guard Robert Hubbs III scored 25 points and made key plays down the stretch to help Tennessee hold off Tennessee Tech in a 74-68 win Tuesday at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn.

Hubbs blocked a Tennessee Tech 3-point attempt with less than a minute to play and connected on a pair of free throws with 18 seconds left to help the Volunteers seal the win. Hubbs hit all five of his free throws in the game and has missed only one foul shot all season.

Redshirt freshman guard Lamonte Turner added 16 points, hitting five 3-pointers for Tennessee (5-4).

Tennessee jumped out to a big lead in the first half and was up by 22 points early in the second half before Tennessee Tech made a run.

The Golden Eagles used a 13-1 run, capped by two free throws from Savonte Frazier, to cut the Vols' advantage to 58-50 with eight minutes to play.

Tennessee Tech stayed within striking distance the rest of the way and was within five after Hakeem Rogers drained a 3-pointer from the wing with two minutes left.

Junior guard Aleksa Jugovic had 14 points to lead the Eagles, and senior guard Kajon Mack added 11 points. Frazier also finished with 11 points for Tennessee Tech (4-8).

Hubbs had 15 points in the first half, and Turner scored 12 points on four 3-pointers in the half, helping the Vols take a 43-25 lead into intermission.

Tennessee bounced back from a hard-fought 73-71 loss at No. 7 North Carolina on Sunday.

Tennessee has three games remaining before opening Southeastern Conference play at Texas A&M on Dec. 29. The Vols will host Lipscomb on Thursday before taking on No. 8 Gonzaga on Sunday.

The Golden Eagles, who lost their third game in a row, also will face Lipscomb in their next game on Saturday.
