Quinndary Weatherspoon scored 21 points to lead Mississippi State to a 74-57 victory over visiting Oregon State on Thursday night at Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville, Miss.

Weatherspoon made 6 of 7 field-goal attempts and 4 of 5 from 3-point range for Mississippi State (5-2). Mario Kegler had 12 points. Eli Wright and Lamar Peters added 10 points apiece.

Stephen Thompson Jr. scored 20 points for Oregon State (3-5). Jaquori McLaughlin scored 12 points and Cheikh N'Diaye had 10.

Aric Holman dunked to put Mississippi State on top early, sparking an 11-0 run that gave the Bulldogs a 13-3 lead. Oregon State got within five on a layup by Thompson, but a 13-3 run put the Bulldogs up 26-11 midway through the opening period.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 18 on a dunk by Weatherspoon. They went up by 20 on a free throw by Lamar Peters and carried a commanding 45-19 advantage into the locker room at the break.

Mississippi State had 11 steals and forced 13 turnovers in the first half. The Bulldogs shot 56 percent and made 7 of 9 from 3-point range while holding the Beavers to 36-percent shooting.

The Bulldogs maintained a considerable lead against the Beavers in the second half. Kegler made a 3-pointer to put them up 50-26 and Wright struck from long distance to push the lead back to 25.

Oregon State got within 19 on a layup by Thompson with just over eight minutes remaining and cut the deficit to 17 on a basket by Drew Eubanks with just under four minutes to go, but the Beavers couldn't get any closer.

Mississippi State shot 50 percent from the field and made 11 of 19 from 3-point range. Oregon State shot 45.5 percent and made 6 of 13 from beyond the arc, but the Beavers committed 21 turnovers.
