Sophomore guard PJ Dozier hit a jumper as time expired, lifting South Carolina to a 70-69 overtime win over Monmouth on Tuesday in a Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational game at Columbia, S.C.

Monmouth took a 69-68 lead with a minute to play on a three-point play by Je'lon Hornbeak. With the Hawks clinging to the one-point lead on their final possession, Justin Robinson missed a jump shot with eight seconds left.

South Carolina's Sindarius Thornwell grabbed the rebound and got the ball to Dozier, who buried the game-winner.

Thornwell finished with 23 points, nine rebounds and six assists to lead the Gamecocks (3-0). Duane Notice finished with 15 points, and Chris Silva added 10 points for South Carolina.

Senior center Chris Brady had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead Monmouth (1-1).

South Carolina jumped all over Monmouth early, racing out to a 19-5 lead. The Hawks didn't score for the first seven minutes but eventually settled down and closed out the first half with a 17-10 run to cut the deficit to 29-22 at intermission.

The Gamecocks opened the second half with a 9-0 run but were unable to put away an experienced Monmouth team that returned 88 percent of its scoring from last season.

Brady hit a layup that cut the Gamecocks' lead to 50-48 with 8:14 to play.

Thornwell sank a pair of free throws to give South Carolina a 60-58 lead with 30 seconds left. Monmouth's Micah Seaborn answered on the Eagles' next possession, hitting a pair of free throws with 19 seconds to left to tie the score and send the game into overtime.
