Tyler Davis had 16 points and 10 rebounds and Texas A&M pulled away in the second half to post a convincing 72-44 nonconference victory over Northwestern State on Friday night in College Station, Texas.

Tonny Trocha-Morelos had 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field for the Aggies (1-0). Texas A&M had a 46-29 rebounding edge while giving Billy Kennedy his 100th victory as Aggies coach.

Zeek Woodley scored 10 points on 2-of-9 shooting from the field for Northwestern State (0-1). Nobody else reached double digits for the Demons, who shot just 27.9 percent from the field and committed 18 turnovers.

Texas A&M led by 10 points early in the second half before pulling away with a 25-3 run.

Trocha-Morelos' basket and Admon Gilder's 3-pointer capped a string of nine straight points to give the Aggies a 44-25 advantage. Northwestern State's Reginald Kissoonlal hit a 3-pointer to temporarily halt the burst.

But Texas A&M went right back on the offensive and scored at will from both inside and out on the perimeter. The Aggies reeled off 16 more consecutive points, ending when Davis converted a three-point play to make it 60-28 with 10:19 remaining.

Caleb Smith drained a 3-pointer to boost the lead to a game-high 36 points and make it 66-30 with 6:53 left.

Robert Williams contributed seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Texas A&M had nine rejections as a team.

Early in the game, the Aggies used an 11-2 run to take an 17-8 lead with 11:41 left in the first half. The Demons bounced back with a 10-3 surge to get within two points with 6:44 remaining.

Texas A&M controlled the rest of the half, outscoring Northwestern State 13-3 to take a 33-21 lead at the break.
