Junior guard Duane Notice scored 15 of his 17 points in the first half to help South Carolina roll to an 84-58 victory over Tennessee on Wednesday in SEC play at Columbia, S.C.

Senior forward Michael Carrera had 16 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth consecutive double-double for the Gamecocks (23-5, 10-5). Senior forward Laimonas Chatkevicius scored 12 points and senior forward Mindaugas Kacinas added 11 for South Carolina, which led by as many as 30 points while remaining tied with Texas A&M for second place in the SEC.

Senior guard Devon Baulkman scored 19 points for the Volunteers (13-5, 6-9), who played without leading scorer Kevin Punter (22.2 average) for the second straight game. The senior guard has a stress fracture in his right foot.

Freshman guard Shembari Phillips added 16 points and senior forward Armani Moore scored 10 for Tennessee, which dropped to 1-10 on the road.

The Volunteers trailed 43-34 after Baulkman knocked down one of his five 3-pointers with 1:50 left in the first half but went scoreless for the next six minutes. South Carolina took advantage with 16 consecutive points - the final six of the first half and the first 10 of the second.

Kacinas capped the spurt with a basket to make it 59-34 with 16:15 to play. Moore ended the Volunteers' drought with a layup 25 seconds later and the basket started a 12-1 surge with freshman Admiral Schofield capping it with back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the deficit to 14 with 10:28 left.

Another basket by Moore pushed Tennessee within 13 with 9:30 left before South Carolina put the game away with 17 straight points over the next six-plus minutes. The Gamecocks capped the run with three straight 3-pointers, two by Carrera and one from Kacinas, to make it 78-48.

After Tennessee opened the game with the first two points, the Gamecocks ran off the next 11 and never again trailed. The Volunteers were behind 25-23 after Phillips made a 3-pointer with 10:31 left in the half before South Carolina controlled the rest of the period and Notice's 3-pointer gave the Gamecocks a 49-34 halftime lead.
