Freshman point guard Jalen Adams made his first seven field-goal attempts and scored 14 points as Connecticut utilized a big second half to cruise past East Carolina 85-67 at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn., on Sunday.

Forward Shonn Miller and guard Rodney Purvis each scored 16 points to lead UConn (17-6, 7-3 American) to its third consecutive win.

The Huskies now have won six of their last seven. Guard Sterling Gibbs and forward Daniel Hamilton each added 12 points. Hamilton also grabbed 16 rebounds.

The Huskies shot 56 percent from the floor and finished the game with just six turnovers. Adams had four of UConn's 18 assists.

East Carolina (10-13, 2-8) was hanging around, trailing by only four points after a 3-pointer by Prince Williams (21 points) that cut UConn's lead to 48-44. But the Huskies put the game away with a 22-5 run that started on a jumper by Adams with 15:55 left in the game.

That was the start of a 9-0 UConn spurt that raised the lead to 13 points on a jumper by Purvis with 13:38 remaining.

The Huskies caught a break at the end of the first half. Forward Kentrell Barkley drove to the basket with time running out and was fouled by UConn forward Kentan Facey. Forward Phil Nolan was called for a deadball technical after the play, giving the Pirates four free throws and the ball with 1.6 seconds remaining.

Barkley and Williams each made a free throw and guard B.J. Tyson missed a shot at the buzzer as East Carolina came away with two points out of a possible seven.

UConn, which shot 65.4 percent in the half, led 42-33 at the break.
