Guard Ronnie Johnson scored 20 points to lead four Houston players in double figures on Saturday night as the Cougars rolled to a 97-52 rout of Florida A&M at Hofheinz Pavillion in Houston.

Guards Galen Robinson Jr. and Rob Gray Jr. added 17 points apiece for the Cougars (2-0), who shot 58.2 percent from the field.

Houston, which also received 16 points from forward Devonta Pollard, topped 95 points for the second straight game and has hit 18 of 43 3-pointers and converted 35 of 44 free throws to start the season.

Robinson added eight assists and forward Danrad Knowles had a team-most six rebounds off the bench for the Cougars.

Guard Craig Bowman and reserve forward K'Ja Jonnson each had nine points for Florida A&M (2-2), which had a 37-36 rebounding edge but 23 turnovers.

The Rattlers, of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, came into the game averaging 74.7 points but only received six points on 2-of-8 shooting from the field from leading scorer Malcolm Bernard, who came in averaging 19.7 points.

The score was tied at 2, but Houston scored nine of the next 11 points and the rout was on. The Cougars led 47-20 at the half on 19-of-35 shooting from the floor and a combined 25 points from Pollard and Johnson.

After the break, Houston picked up where it left off as guard Damyean Dotson drilled a 3-pointer 11 seconds into the second half as the Cougars opened with a quick 7-2 run to push their advantage past 30.

Florida A&M only got as close as 57-30 and Houston took its largest lead at 86-35 on back-to-back treys from Johnson and Gray with 8:35 remaining.
