Forward Nick Jacobs matched his career high with 23 points - 17 in the first half - and had nine rebounds to lead Georgia Tech to a 69- 67 victory over Tennessee on Monday at McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta.

Tennessee had a chance to win it at the buzzer. With six seconds remaining, the Volunteers worked the ball to guard Devon Baulkman, whose 3- point shot missed as the horn sounded.

Georgia Tech (2- 0) also got 17 points and seven rebounds from guard Marcus Georges- Hunt, who scored 11 in the second half. Forward Charles Mitchell had 12 points and 12 rebounds - his second double- double of the season and the ninth of his career.

Tennessee (1- 1) was led by forward Armani Moore with 17 points, six rebounds, four steals and four blocks, and guard Robert Hubbs III, who scored 13 points.

The Volunteers went on an 11- 0 run to take a 53- 44 lead with 14:19 remaining. Tennessee made 5 of 7 shots during that stretch, while the Yellow Jackets missed eight shots during the three plus- minute stretch. Georgia Tech came back on a 10- 0 run of its own and led 58- 55 with 10:19 remaining on a jumper by Jacobs.

Georgia Tech led 40- 38 at halftime thanks to Jacobs. He shot 6- for- 9 from the floor and had four rebounds. Jacobs scored 12 points in the season- opening victory against Cornell.

Tennessee aggressively took the ball to the basket in the first half, but shot only 38.1 percent. The Volunteers outrebounded Georgia Tech 27- 21 and had eight second- chance baskets. Hubbs was the top scorer for Tennessee with nine points in the opening half.
