Michigan State 62, Oklahoma 58: Travis Trice scored nine of his 24 points in the final five minutes and the Spartans outlasted the Sooners in the East Regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament in Syracuse, N.Y.

Denzel Valentine scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half and grabbed seven rebounds as No. 7 seed Michigan State (26-11) advances to face fourth-seeded Louisville in the East final Sunday - its second trip to the Elite Eight in as many years. Branden Dawson recorded 11 rebounds for the Spartans.

Buddy Hield, the Big 12 Player of the Year, registered 21 points and six rebounds for third-seeded Oklahoma (24-11), which shot 27.3 percent from the floor in the final 34 minutes. TaShawn Thomas contributed 16 points and seven rebounds while Ryan Spangler added nine boards for the Sooners.

Oklahoma made eight of its first 11 attempts from the field and led by as many as 10 on three occasions before missing 16 of its final 21 shots prior to intermission and settling for a 31-27 advantage at the break. Valentine's jumper made it 39-39 with 14 1/2 minutes remaining and neither team scored for more than 3 1/2 minutes until Hield recorded a three-point play, and after a 3-pointer by Valentine, Dawson's bucket with 9:25 left gave the Spartans their first lead 44-42.

Matt Costello followed his own miss with a resounding dunk to put Michigan State in front for good and Valentine drilled a 3-pointer on its next possession to make it 51-47 with 6:15 remaining. After Hield drilled a 3-pointer with 1:01 left to cut the deficit to 58-56, Valentine grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled with 25 seconds left and made both free throws before Trice's pair from the line with 13.6 seconds to play sealed the victory.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Michigan State committed five turnovers and has recorded only 20 in its first three NCAA Tournament games. ... Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger fell to 16-16 in the NCAA Tournament. ... The Spartans, who lost to Louisville as a No. 1 seed in the 2012 Sweet 16, are 20-4 in the second game of an NCAA Tournament weekend, with all the losses coming to No. 1 seeds or eventual national champions.
