UTEP 77, Xavier 73: C.J. Cooper made four 3-pointers and scored a career-high 22 points as the Miners advanced to the championship game of the Wooden Legacy in Fullerton, Calif.

Vince Hunter recorded his fourth straight double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds for UTEP (4-0), which faces Washington in Sunday’s title game. Earvin Morris added 15 and Cedrick Lang collected 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Miners, who shot 48.1 percent and held a 40-31 rebounding edge.

Myles Davis scored 15 points and Trevon Bluiett added 13 to lead Xavier (5-1), which came in averaging 88.4 points and meets Long Beach State in Sunday's third-place game. Dee Davis had 12 points and five assists while Matt Stainbrook registered 11 points and six boards before fouling out in the final seconds.

Xavier closed the first half shooting 5-of-7 from the field and led 38-33 at the break. Hunter, who was held to one field goal in the opening period, opened the second half with 10 quick points and put UTEP ahead 46-44 with just over 15 minutes left.

The Miners extended their lead to 54-48 with 11 minutes remaining when Cooper’s fadeaway 3-pointer beat the shot clock. Xavier trailed by eight with just under five minutes left before cutting the deficit to two points twice in the final minute, but the Miners converted four of their final six free-throw attempts to seal the win.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Davis, who missed Thursday’s win over San Diego due to disciplinary reasons, scored 11 points in the first half on 4-of-7 shooting. … UTEP is 4-0 for the first time since the 2009-10 season, when the Miners opened with five straight wins. … Xavier F James Farr was assessed a technical foul with 16:30 remaining and the Musketeers leading 41-40.
