No. 3 Duke 81, No. 19 Michigan State 71: Jahlil Okafor continued his stellar start to the season by missing only two shots on his way to 17 points as the Blue Devils held off the Spartans at the Champions Classic in Indianapolis.

Okafor was 8-of-10 from the field to improve to 25-of-30 in the first three games of his career at Duke (3-0). The freshman center added five rebounds, two blocks and two steals, while Quinn Cook scored 19 points and Justise Winslow, another highly regarded freshman, added 15.

Michigan State (1-1) was led by Branden Dawson's 18 points and nine rebounds. Travis Trice contributed 15 points, eight assists and six rebounds for the Spartans, who also received 13 points from Denzel Valentine.

Okafor and Winslow each had 10 points in the first half as Duke led 40-33 at the break. The Blue Devils led by as many as 10 early in the second half before the Spartans closed within 51-48 on Valentine's two free throws with 12:19 remaining.

Duke responded by scoring 13 of the next 16 points, including five straight points by Cook and a four-point play freshman Tyus Jones - to take control for good. Jones scored all 17 of his points in the second half, finishing 4-of-5 from the field and 7-of-7 from the line with four assists and a pair of steals.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Duke G Rasheed Sulaimon, the team's fourth-leading scorer last season, scored only three points and has a total of 15 points in three games. ... The starters combined to score nearly 89 percent of the points in the game. ... Michigan State had 10 turnovers in the first half and 13 for the game. Valentine had five turnovers to lead all players.
