Miami (Fla.) 67, Pittsburgh 63: Davon Reed tied his career high with 19 points as the Hurricanes spoiled the Panthers' home finale.

Reed was 7-of-8 from the field and 3-of-3 from 3-point range as Miami (19-11, 9-8 ACC) won a game it likely needed to win to have any chance at the NCAA Tournament. The Hurricanes, who conclude their regular season Saturday at Virginia Tech, were led by Sheldon McClellan's 20 points while Tonye Jekiri added 10 points and 11 boards.

Michael Young had 22 points and seven rebounds to pace Pittsburgh (19-12, 8-9), which will aim to avoid ending the regular season with a three-game skid when it visits Florida State on Saturday. Jamel Artis chipped in 14 points and six boards for the hosts.

McClellan answered a 3-pointer by Artis with one of his own with 2:07 to play to restore a four-point lead for Miami and then, following a basket by Young, McCellan responded with a tough step-back jumper to make it 62-58. Pitt nearly erased a six-point deficit in the final 30 seconds as Sheldon Jeter nailed a 3-pointer with 26 seconds remaining and the Panthers stole the inbounds pass, although Artis' triple rimmed off and Miami sealed it at the line.

Reed was 5-of-5 from the field for 12 points in the first half, but his teammates were 7-of-26 as the Hurricanes trailed 33-29 at intermission. Reed added another 3-pointer - his third of the game - and a putback in the first two minutes of the second half and the teams jockeyed back and forth throughout the duration of the contest.

GAME NOTEBOOK: This marked the fifth time in Reed's two-year career that he has scored 19 points. ... The Hurricanes played without PG Angel Rodriguez (wrist). ... Miami was 15-of-18 from the foul line while Pitt was even more efficient at 7-of-8.
