Providence 77, Marquette 66: LaDontae Henton had 25 points and 15 rebounds to lead the host Friars past the Golden Eagles in a Big East game.

Kris Dunn added 16 points, nine assists, five rebounds and four steals for Providence (20-9, 10-6 Big East), which posted back-to-back 20-win seasons after finishing 23-12 last season. Tyler Harris chipped in 13 points and six rebounds off the bench for the Friars.

Freshman Duane Wilson scored 22 points, including a career-high seven 3-pointers, to lead Marquette (11-17, 3-13), which extended its losing streak to five games. Matt Carlino added 21 points, six assists and five rebounds for the Golden Eagles, who have lost 11 of their last 12 contests.

Providence tied the game at 22-22 on Harris’ jumper with just over eight minutes left and pulled ahead for good on Henton’s jumper on the next possession. The Friars, who held a 40-29 advantage at halftime, finished with 45 rebounds to the Golden Eagles’ 25 boards.

Providence led by as many as 24 points in the second half but Marquette pulled as close as five points, cutting it to 71-66 on Carlino’s 3-pointer with 2:01 remaining. The Friars went on a 6-0 run with a free throw by Henton and Dunn, and a pair of free throws by Junior Lomomba and Ben Bentil, to escape with the win.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Providence produced back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time since 1992-93 (20-13) and 1993-94 (20-10). … The Friars improved to 6-14 in the series against Marquette and won for the second time in 13 meetings. … Henton registered his fifth double-double this season.
