Marc Loving matched a career high with 19 points and went 5-of-5 from 3-point range as the Buckeyes routed the visiting Terrapins in Big Ten play.

Freshman D’Angelo Russell had 18 points, matched a season-best with 14 rebounds, made four 3-pointers and had six assists for Ohio State (17-5, 6-3). Jae’Sean Tate added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Buckeyes, who went 10-of-17 from 3-point range.

Dez Wells scored 12 points and Jake Layman added 10 for Maryland (18-4, 6-3), which shot 30.5 percent from the field. Standout freshman Melo Trimble was held to three points on 0-of-8 shooting.

Ohio State led by eight points at halftime and increased the lead to 48-32 on a 3-pointer by Sam Thompson with 16:06 to play and Loving hit back-to-back 3-pointers a short time later to restore the 16-point margin. Maryland pulled within 11 on a 3-pointer by Richaud Pack with 9:53 left before the Buckeyes answered with a 10-1 burst to increase the margin to 20 and eventually stretch their lead to 27 points.

Russell had a four-point play and a 3-pointer during a 12-0 run that saw the Buckeyes open up a 28-15 with 4:24 left in the first half. The Terrapins pulled within five before Loving drained a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left to give Ohio State a 34-26 halftime advantage.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Loving also made five 3-pointers against North Carolina on Dec. 20. … Maryland was 9-of-26 from 3-point range. … The Buckeyes collected 16 offensive rebounds while possessing a 51-32 rebounding edge.
