Creighton 77, St. John's 74: Toby Hegner scored 21 points, including four free throws in the game's final seconds, and the host Bluejays posted the Big East win to snap a nine-game losing streak.

James Milliken scored nine of his 17 points down the stretch for Creighton (10-12, 1-8 Big East) and Austin Chatman added 13 points and Rick Kreklow had 10 for the Bluejays, who went 18-for-21 from the free-throw line. Milliken gave Creighton the lead for good hitting a 3-pointer with 3:20 to play to put the Bluejays ahead 65-62.

D'Angelo Harrison led St. John's with 18 points but missed a desperation 3-pointer before the final buzzer. Jamal Branch added 17 points for the Red Storm (13-7, 2-5) before fouling out with 2:43 to play and his team trailing by a point.

Creighton finished the first half hitting its last seven 3-point attempts and took a 37-27 lead into the break. Hegner, a 6-10 redshirt freshman, had a dozen points before the intermission as the Bluejays buried nine triples.

The Red Storm erased the lead in the opening minutes of the second half, embarking on a 15-2 run to take a 42-39 advantage and the game was a see-saw affair the rest of the way. Chatman gave Creighton a 73-69 lead on a pair of free throws with 34 seconds left but Harrison cut it to 73-72 on a 3-pointer before Hegner put the game away at the line.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Blue Jays played minus second-leading scorer Isaiah Zierden (9.5 average) who suffered a knee injury and will miss the rest of the season. ...The 37 points were the most points by Creighton at halftime since their last win, a 75-60 win over Texas-Pan American on Dec. 19. ...The Bluejays entered the game ranked 18th in the nation in free-throw percentage.
