No. 12 Wichita State 58, Loyola Chicago 47: Fred VanVleet scored a career-high 27 points and matched his personal best with four 3-pointers as the Shockers recorded a home victory over their Missouri Valley Conference rival.

VanVleet, who shot 10-of-16 from the field and 4-of-7 beyond the arc, was joined in double figures by Ron Baker, who was 3-of-6 from long range en route to 16 points. The other three starters for Wichita State (19-2, 9-0 MVC) combined for eight points on 4-of-17 shooting.

Devon Turk had nine points to pace Loyola (13-8, 3-6), which shot 9-of-15 in the first half before scuffling to 8-of-25 after the break. The Ramblers shot 8-of-15 outside the arc but absorbed a 16-7 deficit in offensive rebounds and had nearly as many turnovers (16) as field goals (17) in losing their fourth straight.

VanVleet, who had scored more than 15 points only twice all season, deposited 16 in the opening session as he hit 3-of-5 3-pointers, including one just before the buzzer to make it 29-23 at the break. The Shockers shot 37.5 percent in the first half but grabbed 11 offensive rebounds while the Ramblers finished the first half with zero offensive boards.

Joe Crisman's 3-pointer got Loyola within five before the Ramblers went more than six minutes without a point as Baker's 3-pointer with just under seven minutes left made it 44-30. VanVleet added a layup, a 3-pointer and a three-point play down the stretch as the Shockers won their 27th straight conference game.

GAME NOTEBOOK: VanVleet's previous career high was 22 points, accomplished four times last season. His season high entering Wednesday was 21. ... The Shockers have given up 62 points or fewer during every game in their current nine-game winning streak. ... F Christian Thomas, the leading scorer for Loyola at 12.4 points entering Wednesday, finished with two points and three turnovers.
