St. John's 60, Marquette 57: Sir'Dominic Pointer recorded 15 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks, four assists and two steals as the host Red Storm posted a much-needed victory.

Rysheed Jordan added 15 points while Phil Greene IV and D'Angelo Harrison chipped in 11 apiece for St. John's (13-5, 2-4 Big East), which had lost four of its previous five games. The Red Storm got a transition dunk by Greene to go up by three with 7.9 seconds left before Marquette's Matt Carlino pulled up from just inside halfcourt, thinking he was about to be fouled, only to watch his heave rim out at the buzzer.

Carlino scored 21 points on 5-of-11 3-point shooting for the Golden Eagles (10-8, 2-4), who watched two of their starters - Derrick Wilson and Juan Anderson - go scoreless on the night. Steve Taylor Jr. added 13 points off the bench as Marquette failed to surpass 60 points for the fifth time in six contests.

St. John's trailed by a point with under three minutes left when Pointer made a layup and a dunk on consecutive possessions, although Carlino's steal led to Duane Wilson's transition layup as Marquette got back wtihin 56-55 with 57 seconds left. Harrison knocked down two foul shots with 14.7 seconds remaining to restore a three-point edge before the Red Storm intentionally fouled Carlino, who made both before Greene broke free for an easy slam.

Both teams hovered around 30 percent shooting in the first half as St. John's led 26-24 at the break despite 2-of-15 3-point shooting. Carlino made four 3-pointers in a span of 3 1/2 minutes early in the second half to help the Golden Eagles go ahead 43-35, but Jordan knocked down a pair of long-range shots during a 9-0 run as the Red Storm moved in front by a point.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Golden Eagles C Luke Fischer, who came in shooting 76.8 percent, finished 2-of-8 for eight points. ... Pointer missed his only 3-point attempt to fall to 0-of-12 on the season and 3-of-32 over the last two seasons. ... Carlino is averaging 23 points on 14-of-25 3-point shooting in the last three games.
