No. 11 Maryland 75, Michigan State 59: Melo Trimble buried six 3-pointers en route to 24 points as the Terrapins jumped out early and ran away from the visiting Spartans.

Jake Layman collected 23 points and 12 rebounds while going 11-of-12 from the free-throw line for Maryland (17-2, 5-1 ACC), which completed a regular-season sweep of Michigan State. Dez Wells added nine points and five assists for the Terrapins, who went 20-of-22 from the stripe.

Branden Dawson collected 14 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks to lead Michigan State (12-6, 3-2), which had a three-game winning streak come to an end. Matt Costello added 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Spartans, who went 4-of-13 from the free-throw line.

Trimble knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10 points during a 19-4 run through the middle of the first half that left Maryland in front 24-14. Trimble’s 3-pointer just in front of the buzzer gave him 21 points in the half and sent the Terrapins into the break up 40-26.

Dawson’s layup cut Michigan State’s deficit to 46-35 under five minutes into the second half, but Evan Smotrycz got to the basket for layups on back-to-back possessions and Trimble connected on another 3-pointer to push it to 60-40 with just over 11 minutes left. The Spartans made a late push to pull within 65-53 before Layman scored 10 points over the final two minutes to put it away.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Maryland entered the game leading the Big Ten in field-goal percentage defense at 37.3 percent and held the Spartans to 44.8 percent. … Layman went 5-of-8 from the field after going 5-of-23 in the previous two games. … Michigan State G Travis Trice, who scored 26 points in the first meeting, was held to five points on 2-of-8 shooting.
