No. 23 Baylor 74, No. 13 Iowa State 73: Kenny Chery scored 13 points, including a game-winning shot with 4.7 seconds left, and the Bears held off a second-half rally by the visiting Cyclones.

Royce O'Neale had 15 points and six rebounds while Rico Gathers and Johnathan Motley scored 14 points apiece for Baylor (13-3, 2-2 Big 12), which led by as many as 17 early in the first half. Lester Medford added nine points and four assists as the Bears improved to 10-2 all-time against Iowa State in Waco.

Naz Long paced Iowa State (12-3, 2-1) with 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting (including 5-for-5 from 3-point range) and Bryce Dejean-Jones added 14 points, including a 3-pointer to put the Cyclones ahead 73-72 with 14 seconds left. Monte Morris contributed 11 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for the Cyclones, who were 10-of-19 from 3-point range but shot 11-of-19 from the foul line.

Baylor opened with a 16-1 run and took a 46-34 lead into the break after shooting 8-of-15 from beyond the arc. O’Neale made three 3-pointers in the opening period for the Bears, who led 62-48 with just under nine minutes left before the Cyclones made four 3-pointers during an 18-4 run to pull even at 66 with 2:24 remaining.

Georges Niang, who finished with 10 points on 4-of-13 shooting, gave Iowa State its first lead of the game at 68-67 with just under two minutes left. Motley scored on a put-back with 27 seconds left and Dejean-Jones answered with a 3-pointer before Chery drained a step-back jumper to end Iowa State’s comeback hopes.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The home team has won 22 of 24 games in the series. … Chery exited the game briefly with an apparent right shoulder injury midway through the second half before returning from the locker room with 6:36 remaining. …. Taurean Prince chipped in five points and six rebounds for the Bears, who improved to 72-6 when leading at the half over the last four seasons.
