No. 11 Maryland 73, Rutgers 65: Dez Wells scored 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds as the host Terrapins survived a scare from the Scarlet Knights.

Jake Layman added 12 points to go along with 13 rebounds for Maryland (16-2, 4-1 Big Ten), which rallied from a six-point deficit with 7:38 remaining. Jared Nickens also tallied 12 points and Melo Trimble had 11 for the Terrapins, who overcame 34.4 percent shooting from the field.

Myles Mack paced Rutgers (10-8, 2-3) with 19 points and six assists while Junior Etou corralled eight rebounds. Mike Williams and Bishop Daniels scored 12 points apiece for the Scarlet Knights, who couldn't survive an 8-of-16 performance from the free-throw line.

Mack hit two 3-pointers during a 14-2 surge to open up the second half as Rutgers pulled ahead 45-40 and Etou nailed a jumper a short time later to increase the lead to six with just under 7 1/2 minutes remaining. Wells scored six points as part of an 11-2 run to put Maryland back in front 62-59 and the Terrapins held the Scarlet Knights without a field goal for the last four minutes to win their sixth straight home game.

Williams scored eight straight points to give the Scarlet Knights a 22-20 lead before Nickens connected from beyond the arc later on to put Maryland on top 31-25. The Terrapins made eight 3-pointers in the first half - including three in the last four minutes - to take a 38-31 advantage into intermission.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Maryland won the battle of the boards 46-33 and held a 16-5 advantage on the offensive glass. … Rutgers has lost 24 straight road games to top 25 opponents. … The Terrapins knocked down a season-high 11 3-pointers.
