No. 9 Maryland 69, Purdue 60: Dez Wells scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half to go along with seven rebounds and four assists as the visiting Terrapins downed the Boilermakers.

Jake Layman added 14 points and eight rebounds for Maryland (15-2, 3-1 Big Ten), which went 27-of-31 from the free-throw line. Melo Trimble scored eight of his 11 points from the foul line while Richaud Pack also tallied 11 points for the Terrapins, who overcame 37.5 percent shooting from the field.

Kendall Stephens led the way with 14 points and seven rebounds while Rapheal Davis had 12 points for Purdue (10-7, 2-2), which couldn't survive a 13-of-20 performance from the free-throw line. Jon Octeus chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Boilermakers.

Michal Cekovsky scored at the rim to put Maryland on top 46-39 before P.J. Thompson knocked down a 3-pointer to pull Purdue within three. Layman and Trimble sank two free throws apiece to push the margin to 59-50 with just under four minutes remaining and the Terrapins were not threatened the rest of the way.

Trimble scored five early points as Maryland jumped out to a 13-4 lead before Isaac Haas later keyed a 9-0 run to turn a six-point deficit into a 24-21 advantage for Purdue and the two teams went into intermission deadlocked at 26-26. Dion Wiley drilled a 3-pointer to put the Terrapins on top 38-32 before Vince Edwards connected beyond the arc to trim the deficit to three.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Maryland went 6-of-20 from 3-point range while Purdue finished 5-of-20. … Layman and Trimble went a combined 3-of-18 from the field, but 17-of-19 from the free-throw line. … The Boilermakers have lost 12 straight games to Top 25 opponents.
