Illinois 64, No. 9 Maryland 57: Malcolm Hill scored a career-high 28 points to go along with seven rebounds as the host Fighting Illini snapped the Terrapins' seven-game winning streak.

Nnanna Egwu added 11 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots for Illinois (11-5, 1-2 Big Ten), which has won eight straight at the State Farm Center. Jaylon Tate recorded 10 points and four assists in his first career start for the Fighting Illini, who went 17-of-20 from the free-throw line.

Melo Trimble collected 17 points, five rebounds and four assists for Maryland (14-2, 2-1), which shot 36.5 percent from the field. Jake Layman tallied 10 points while Dion Wiley added nine off the bench for the Terrapins, who couldn't overcome a 10-of-18 performance from the foul line.

Hill scored seven consecutive points as part of a 13-0 run to help Illinois blow open a tight game and pull away 46-31. Hill continued to have the hot hand as his jumper put the Fighting Illini on top 50-34 before Jared Nickens, Trimble and Wiley each nailed 3-pointers to pull Maryland within 58-52, but Tate sank four clutch free throws in the final 32 seconds to preserve the victory.

Wiley and Dez Wells nailed back-to-back 3-pointers as Maryland jumped to a 23-17 lead and the Terrapins held Illinois to 29 percent shooting in the first half to settle for a 28-26 edge at intermission. Hill scored five points as part of a 7-0 spurt to open up the second half to put the Fighting Illini back on top 33-28 before Layman drilled a triple to trim the deficit to two.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Illinois finished with seven turnovers after coughing the ball up a season-high 20 times in a loss to No. 20 Ohio State while Maryland committed 10. … Fighting Illini G Rayvonte Rice missed the game with a fractured hand and is expected to be sidelined for the next 3-to-6 weeks. … Terrapins F Evan Smotrycz was limited to two points on 0-of-6 shooting and is 4-of-22 in his last four games.
