No. 13 Kansas 56, No. 22 Baylor 55: Wayne Selden Jr. scored seven straight points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with just over two minutes to play, as the visiting Jayhawks won their 24th straight Big 12 Conference opener.

Jamari Traylor scored 13 points and Brannen Greene added 12 for Kansas (12-2, 1-0 Big 12), which never led by more than three points in handing the Bears (11-3, 0-2) their first home defeat. Frank Mason III added 11 points and five assists for the Jayhawks.

Kenny Chery scored a season-high 25 points for Baylor, which suffered its first home loss since a 69-52 drubbing by Kansas on Feb. 4. Rico Gathers just missed a double-double with nine points and 13 boards for the Bears, who missed two go-ahead attempts at the rim and failed to get off a final shot in the final seconds.

A 3-point play by Taurean Prince gave Baylor the biggest lead of the second half at 41-36, but Greene and Mason combined for nine points as the Jayhawks pulled into a 47-47 tie with five minutes remaining. Selden gave Kansas its biggest lead at 52-49 with 2:12 remaining and the Bears twice cut the deficit to one, but Royce O'Neale missed a layup and Gathers couldn't follow up with 10.1 seconds to play.

Kelly Oubre Jr. then forced a turnover on an inbounds play and Greene buried a pair of free throws for a three-point edge with 6.3 seconds left before Chery hit two of his own. Neither team shot better than 28 percent in a first half that saw Baylor build a six-point lead on two occasions en route to a 22-18 edge at the break.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Chery, who averaged 6.5 points in his last five games since returning from a five-game absence due to plantar fasciitis, reached 20 points for the first time since the second game of the season. ... Traylor's 13 points tied his season high before he fouled out for Kansas, which didn't attempt a free throw in its lowest-scoring first half of the season. ... Gathers, who celebrated his 21st birthday, pulled down at least 10 boards for the sixth straight game and 12th time this season.
