No. 3 Virginia 61, North Carolina State 51: Justin Anderson scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the host Cavaliers pulled away down the stretch to remain unbeaten.

Malcolm Brogdon scored 14 points and Anthony Gill added 12 to lift Virginia (14-0, 2-0 ACC) to its 19th consecutive home win. Mike Tobey supplied 11 points and five rebounds off the bench to help the Cavaliers to their best start since the Ralph Sampson-led 1980-81 squad won its first 23 games.

Ralston Turner had a team-high 14 points and Kyle Washington contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Wolfpack (11-5, 2-1), who led by as many as eight points in the first half. North Carolina State knocked down seven early 3-pointers but was 2-of-9 from behind the arc in the second half.

The Wolfpack held the Cavaliers without a field goal for more than seven minutes and took their last lead at 42-41 on Trevor Lacey's 3-pointer with 8:58 to play, but Tobey scored six points in a 10-0 burst to make it 51-42 with 3:21 to play. Freshman Caleb Martin's 3-pointer cut the deficit to six, but Gill converted back-to-back rebounds to push the lead to double digits.

N.C. State knocked down its first four 3-point attempts and bolted to a 16-8 lead, but Brogdon fueled a 13-0 run with six points and Anderson buried a pair from behind the arc as Virginia surged ahead 29-20 with just over 3 1/2 minutes left. Turner stemmed the tide with back-to-back 3s as N.C. State cut the deficit to 32-31 at the break.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Anderson made only 15 3-pointers in 18 conference games last season but already has six over the first two league contests this year. ... Turner hit all five of his shots in the first half, including 4-for-4 from 3-point range, but was held scoreless after intermission. ... Virginia held its seventh opponent to 51 points or fewer.
