North Carolina State 68, Pittsburgh 50: Trevor Lacey scored 19 points and Ralston Turner added 16 as the Wolfpack spoiled the ACC opener for the visiting Panthers.

Anthony Barber added nine points and BeeJay Anya had eight points and three blocked shots off the bench for N.C. State (11-4, 2-0 ACC), which improved to 11-2 at home. The Wolfpack, who also received six points and a team-high nine rebounds from Lennard Freeman, shot 51.9 percent from the field while swatting away nine Pittsburgh shots at the other end of the floor.

Jamel Artis had 13 points and James Robinson added 11 for Pittsburgh (10-4, 0-1), which fell seven points shy of their previous season low. The Panthers, who also received 10 points and nine rebounds from leading scorer Michael Young, shot a season-worst 32.7 percent from the field in losing for the first time in their last seven games.

N.C. State held a 27-22 lead early in the second half before ripping off an 11-2 run to push its lead to 38-24. Barber’s three-point play with just under seven minutes remaining gave the Wolfpack their largest lead at 59-38, and the Panthers would only get as close as 15 the rest of the way.

Pittsburgh jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the game’s opening 4:30, but N.C. State scored the next 12 points to take the lead for good. The Panthers hit only two of their first 14 field-goal attempts and finished the opening half 9-of-30 from the floor as N.C. State blocked six shots and took a 27-20 advantage into the break.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ralston and Lacey bounced back from poor outings against Cincinnati on Tuesday, when they combined to shoot 3-of-12 from the field and score 11 points. … The Panthers fell to 1-10 against the Wolfpack outside of Pittsburgh. … N.C. State, which entered Saturday’s game ranked 13th nationally with six blocked shots per game, now has at least six in nine of its 15 contests this season.
