Cal State Bakersfield 55, California 52: Aly Ahmed had 19 points and 10 rebounds as the visiting Roadrunners forced 18 turnovers in a stunning win over the Golden Bears.

Jaylin Airington scored 10 points while Brent Wrapp collected seven points, four assists and three rebounds for Bakersfield (3-10), whose two previous victories came against Idaho State and Delaware. The Roadrunners held Cal to 39.1 percent shooting, including 2-of-15 from 3-point range.

Tyrone Wallace paced Cal (10-3) with 17 points and nine rebounds while David Kravish added 14 points and 10 boards. The Golden Bears, who had a seven-game winning streak snapped Monday against Wisconsin, closed its non-conference schedule by shooting 14-of-25 from the foul line.

Cal was held scoreless for a stretch of nearly nine minutes in the opening period and trailed by as many as 17 before closing the half with six straight points to cut the deficit to 30-20. Airington scored to give the Roadrunners a 50-43 lead with just over three minutes left, but Cal responded with five straight points and turned the final minute into a free-throw shooting contest.

Wallace converted two foul shots with 18 seconds left to cut the lead to 52-50 before Wrapp made one of his two free throws on the other end. Jordan Mathews, who scored nine points, turned the ball over on Cal’s ensuing possession and Ahmed sealed the upset victory by converting two free throws.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cal G Jabari Bird missed his seventh straight game with a left foot injury and is not expected to be available when the Golden Bears begin league play against Washington on Jan. 2. … Airington fouled out with 2:53 left for Bakersfield, which came in rated No. 340 (out of 351) in the latest RealTimeRPI ratings. … Cal fell to 10-4 all-time against current members of the Western Athletic Conference.
