Gardner-Webb 89, Purdue 84: Jerome Hill scored 22 of his 31 points in the first half and the visiting Bulldogs held on for an impressive win over Purdue.

Tyler Strange finished with 18 points and 10 assists for Gardner-Webb (8-5), which made a season-high 14 3-pointers in 25 attempts. Jarvis Davis scored 13 points and Tyrell Nelson added 11 as the Bulldogs won for the fifth time in six games overall.

Rapheal Davis, Jon Octeus and Bryson Scott scored 13 points apiece to lead the Boilermakers (8-5), who lost their third straight game. Isaac Haas and A.J. Hammons both scored 12 points for Purdue, which led by as many as 13 points in the first half.

Purdue scored the game's first six points and raced to a 15-3 lead on back-to-back hoops by Davis less than five minutes in, but the Bulldogs chipped away and finished the first half on a 14-5 run - including nine points by Hill - to pull into a 38-38 tie at the break. Gardner-Webb kept on coming after the break, taking a 56-45 lead on an early 10-0 burst capped by Davis' 3-pointer and going up 71-53 on Strange's basket with eight minutes left.

The Boilermakers made a charge, scoring 10 straight points and cutting their deficit to 77-73 on a long-range make by Octeus with 2:58 to go and to 82-79 on P.J. Thompson's jumper with 1:05 left. Hill missed two free throws and had two turnovers in the last minute to help Purdue put together a 5-0 burst to pull within 86-84 with nine seconds left, but Harold McBride split two foul shots on the other and P.J. Thompson's 3-point try with one second to go was off.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Davis had a game-high 12 rebounds to help the Boilermakers gain a 41-27 advantage on the boards. ... Hill was 6-of-13 from the line as the Bulldogs finished 13-of-23, compared to 16-of-21 for Purdue. ... The Boilermakers next play Dec. 31 in their Big Ten opener against Minnesota.
