Oregon 79, Cal State Northridge 56: Joseph Young had 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists as the Ducks opened their seven-game homestand with a convincing win over the Matadors.

Michael Chandler scored 13 points in his season debut and Dillon Brooks collected 12 points and six rebounds for Oregon (7-3), which led by as many as 18 midway through the second half. Ahmaad Rorie chipped in nine points and Jalil Abdul-Bassit added eight to help the Ducks build on Saturday’s 77-70 victory over Illinois.

Stephan Hicks led Northridge (3-8) with 19 points and seven rebounds while Stephen Maxwell had 12 points and 11 boards. Hicks was 6-of-13 shooting and passed Brian Heinle as the Matadors’ all-time scoring leader with 1,644 points.

Young scored 14 points in the first half and Oregon overcame a slow start to lead 39-30 at the break. The Ducks held Northridge to seven points in the first eight minutes of the second half and extended their lead to 61-44 on Rorie’s basket with just under 10 minutes left.

Chandler, a 6-10 center who missed the Ducks’ first nine games while recovering from knee surgery, scored nine straight points to push the lead to 71-46 with 7:15 left. Young made seven of his 14 shots, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, and the Ducks recorded 21 assists on 28 field goals.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Northridge F Tre Hale-Edmerson, an Oregon native, scored four points before fouling out with just under eight minutes remaining. … Elgin Cook had five rebounds and six assists for Oregon, which improved to 64-12 all-time at Matthew Knight Arena. … The Matadors, who were picked to finish seventh in the Big West Conference preseason media poll, shot 33.9 percent and were 1-of-7 from beyond the arc.
