No. 14 Utah 65, BYU 61: Delon Wright had 18 points and 11 rebounds as the visiting Utes held on to beat the Cougars in a non-conference game.

Wright was the lone player in double figures for Utah (7-1), which held the nation’s top scoring team to 33 points below its season average. Brekkott Chapman was the next-highest scorer for the Utes with eight points off the bench.

Tyler Haws, who entered third in the nation in scoring at 24.4, finished with 23 points and eight rebounds for BYU (7-3). Kyle Collinsworth added 17 points and nine rebounds while Anson Winder scored eight of his 10 points down the stretch for the Cougars.

BYU trailed by 11 with 5 ½ minutes left in the game but got as close as three on Collinsworth’s follow with 1:17 remaining. Brandon Taylor, who came in 18-for-19 from the free-throw line this season, then missed two, but Haws missed his third straight field-goal attempt - a 3-pointer - that would have tied the score with 33 seconds left, and the Utes were able to close out the win from the charity stripe.

Utah, which had lost seven straight at BYU, led by as many as 13 points in the first half before a 14-0 run by the Cougars gave the hosts a 31-28 lead. The Utes went just over nine minutes without a field goal in a stretch that spanned both halves and missed their first nine 3-point attempts before Taylor made one from the baseline to spark a 9-0 burst that put them back on top by six.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Haws has reached double figures in scoring in 58 consecutive games. … Utah came in fifth in the nation in 3-point shooting (44.3) and finished 2-for-14 after its 0-for-9 start. … BYU starting F Nate Austin, who came in second on the team in rebounding (6.2), did not play the second half after suffering a hamstring injury in the first, and the Cougars were outrebounded 43-30 for the game.
