No. 12 Ohio State 97, High Point 43: Freshman Kam Williams scored 13 consecutive points in the first half as the host Buckeyes pulled away from the Panthers.

Williams finished with a career-high 23 points – shooting 4-of-5 from 3-point range and 8-of-10 overall – as Ohio State (7-1) broke open a two-point contest with a 33-16 surge across the final 13 minutes of the first half. Freshman D’Angelo Russell added 18 points and nine rebounds, and Shannon Scott scored 11 points with seven assists as the Buckeyes shot 62.5 percent from the field.

John Brown scored 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting for High Point (6-3). The Panthers shot 32.1 percent from the field and hit 4-of-20 attempts from 3-point range.

High Point pulled within 10-8 on two Tarique Thompson free throws five minutes into the contest, but Scott’s layup two minutes later sparked the Buckeyes’ big run. Williams hit a 3-pointer with 9:21 to play to push the Ohio State lead to 20-10 and added a jumper, another 3-pointer, a three-point play and two free throws across the next five minutes to stretch the advantage to 30-20.

Russell hit a 3-pointer and a layup in the final two minutes of the half as Ohio State carried a 43-24 advantage into intermission. He scored the final five points of a 10-1 run to open the second half as the Buckeyes increased their lead to 53-25, and Ohio State pushed its advantage to 52 points on Williams’ 3-pointer with just under four minutes to play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jae’Sean Tate scored 12 points and Sam Thompson added 10 points for the Buckeyes, who finished 8-of-13 from 3-point range. … Ohio State improved to 95-8 at home since the start of 2009-10 and 13-0 all-time against Big South Conference teams. … Russell has reached double figures in seven of his first eight games.
