Xavier 66, IUPUI 43: Freshman Trevon Bluiett scored eight of his 12 points in the second half as the Musketeers pulled away from the Jaguars for an easy home victory.

Remy Abel had 11 points and Dee Davis added eight points, six assists and four steals for Xavier (7-2), which shot 63.6 percent in the second half to improve to 6-0 at home this season. Freshman J.P. Macura scored eight points off the bench as the Musketeers finished 19 points below their Big East-leading scoring average.

Marcellus Barksdale had 10 points and two steals for IUPUI (2-6), which has lost four straight. The Jaguars shot 35.3 percent, including 1-of-14 from the arc, and turned the ball over 22 times.

The Musketeers shook off a listless first half by making seven consecutive shots, including 3-pointers by Macura, Abell and Davis over a 90-second span, that pushed a four-point halftime lead to 46-29 with 13 minutes left. Shortly thereafter, Bluiett scored four during a 9-2 spurt and the Jaguars got no closer than 18 the rest of the way.

In a first half that featured a combined 24 turnovers and 39.1 percent shooting, IUPUI jumped to an early 10-3 lead. Xavier clawed back and took a 19-17 lead with eight minutes to play after two hoops by Matt Stainbrook and a 3-pointer by Davis before heading into the locker room with a 27-23 edge.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Xavier had 12 turnovers in the first half - one more than its season average - and its 27 first-half points were also a season low. … The three 3-pointers for Xavier early in the second half were one more than it had in the first 23 minutes. … Stainbrook, who entered averaging 15.3 points on a Big East-leading 72.7 percent shooting, scored six points on 3-of-6 shooting.
